                  Area Beaches

No matter what kind of beach you desire: pounding surf,
rolling waves, or calm as a bathtub, Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo
has a beach you’ll love.

Ixtapa Beaches:

El Palmar: The beach in front of the Tesoro.  This main beach in Ixtapa is a two-mile curve of yellow-white sand with bigger waves ideal for body surfing, boogie boarding, parasailing, and other water sports.

Quieta:  Calm waters good for swimming and kayaking.

Linda: Calm surf that’s nice for swimming or relaxing on
the sand.  Look for the estuary on one end where you
will see exotic birds or maybe a crocodile.

Ixtapa Island: A short water-taxi ride from the pier at Playa Quieta, this island has 4 beaches, restaurants, snorkeling, and interesting beach-combing.

Zihuatanejo Beaches:

La Ropa:  One of the most popular beaches because of its calm surf and tourist services.  Ideal for watersports such as windsurfing, waterskiing, and “banana boat” rides.  Have lunch at one of the beach cafes and relax under their cabanas all day.

Las Gatas:  Named for the harmless small sharks you’ll find here, this beach is located inside a small inlet and surrounded by rock formations.  Its calm waters are a favorite for divers and snorkelers.

La Madera: Ideal for swimming and sunbathing because of its fine sand and gentle surf.

Principal:  The town’s main beach, right off the pier and very lively.  Great for walks and watching the fishing boats come in at the end of the day.

Larga: 3 miles from Zihuatanejo, good for beachcombing and horseback riding.
